Babyface

Babyface is an American musician with outstanding vocal talent. In fact he’s dropped eight albums himself between 1986 and 2014. But truth be told, he is even more-celebrated for his production skills. Indeed as of 2015, he has won 11 Grammy Awards.  And the majority of them are in acknowledgement of his production accomplishments.

Moreover 10 of those Grammys actually came during the 1990s. That is to say that decade was the heyday of his career, and during that time Babyface’s name was synonymous with the overall American R&B scene. For instance, a label he co-founded, LaFace Records, launched the careers of Usher, TLC and Toni Braxton. In fact he actually wrote most of the songs on Toni’s first two albums, which were both very successful. So that is why for instance even if he doesn’t trend like he used to, in 2014 NME still placed him in the top half of their list of the 50 of the Greatest Producers Ever.

Meanwhile the only Grammy he won during the first two decades of the 21st century was for 2014’s “Love, Marriage & Divorce” (alongside Toni Braxton). And on top of serving as a vocalist he also co-wrote practically the entire album and produced every track on it.
