Barry Manilow

Barry Manilow is one of the top-selling artists in the history of the music industry, having sold 75 million records worldwide as of the year 2007. This is not only a testament to his musical skill but also the fact that he’s been musically active for over half a century.  Indeed his first album, itself entitled “Barry Manilow”, came out in 1973.

Throughout the years he has been a mainstay on the American music scene, having earned the awards to prove it. For instance, by the year 2006 he had won three American Music Awards and a couple Emmys. Moreover his song “Copacabana (At the Copa)” led to Barry winning a Grammy Award in 1978. And in the year 2002, Mr. Manilow was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

Besides Copacabana, another classic which he is known for is 1975’s “I Write the Songs”.  His rendition of this track scored a number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other songs which he dropped during the 1970s which accomplished the same are “Mandy” (1974) and “Looks Like We Made It” (1977). And even as a senior citizen, Manilow remains musically active having released his 29th album, “Night Songs II” (2020), at the age 76.
