“Best Day of My Life” by Tom Odell
Some people would say that life moves in cycles – that after you go through a spell of depression then it’s inevitable that the sun will shine again.
In explaining the background behind “Best Day of My Life”, Tom Odell revealed that he has gone through something similar. Put simply, he has dealt with enduring periods of serious “sadness” but then afterwards experienced “these incredible peaks of euphoria”.
The lyrics are in fact based on the notion of the vocalist currently having “the best day of (his) life”. And as illustrated, Tom is a simple type of fellow, the kind who enjoys riding “a bicycle” and watching “black-and-white” movies of old. But in terms of him reaching that aforementioned euphoric state, there are also some intoxicants, as “warm beer and valium”, involved. All of these factors combined proceed to cast the vocalist into a mood where his outlook on life is more optimistic than it would be otherwise.

Tom Odell is a singer who burst on the scene during the early-to-mid aughts. He was actually discovered by a more-established British singer in Lily Allen. His first LP, 2013’s “Long Way Down”, proved to be a UK Albums Chart topper. That same year he also received a BRIT Award in the Critics’ Choice category.
However, in more recent times, his music hasn’t been selling as well. That said, the three studio albums Odell has released since – “Wrong Crowd” (2016), “Jubilee Road” (2018) and “Monsters” (2021) – all scored within the top five of the UK Albums Chart.
One of his most notable hits is the 2012 song titled “Another Love“. Actually the song in question was his debut single.
“Best Day of My Life”
All of Tom Odell’s previous albums were issued by Columbia Records. However, “Best Day of My Life”, which came out on 30 March 2022, marks his first independent single. By the looks of things, this song is also serving as the title track to his forthcoming fifth studio album.
The animated music video to this track was directed by a Chinese visual artist named Manshen Lo.
