Chester Bennington

Chester Bennington was an American singer-songwriter best remembered for being the lead vocalist of Linkin Park – a multiple Grammy Award-winning American rock band famed for such songs as Numb, Bleed It Out and What I’ve Done. Away from Linkin Park, he was also known for his membership of the bands Dead by Sunrise and Stone Temple Pilots. Bennington tragically committed suicide by hanging at his California home on 20th July, 2017. He was 41 years old at the time of his tragic and shocking death.

Chester Bennington’s Personal Life

Bennington was born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 20th, 1976. Bennington was married twice. His first marriage was Samantha Marie Olit in 1996. The marriage produced one child and ended in divorce in 2005. His second marriage was onetime Playboy model Talinda Ann Bentley, with whom he fathered three children. The marriage lasted until his death in 2017.

  • Bennington was obsessed with tattoos and had several of them all over his body.
  • For several years, Bennington battled with severe drug and alcohol addiction.
  • Growing up, he was sexually abused for several years. He said the abuse negatively affected him so much he considered committing suicide.
  • During his high school years, Bennington suffered major bullying. According to him, he was physically bullied mainly because he was too skinny and looked different from the other kids.
  • On July 20th, 2017, Bennington hanged himself in his home when his family was out of town. His lifeless body was discovered by his housekeeper.
  • Bennington’s tragic death occurred on the same day that his very close friend Chris Cornell of Soundgarden fame would have celebrated his 53rd birthday. It is noteworthy that Cornell also committed suicide by hanging  about two months earlier on May 18, 2017.
  • Few weeks before committing suicide, Bennington wrote an open letter to his dead friend Cornell saying that he couldn’t imagine a world without Cornell in it.
  • Just a few months before taking his life, Bennington spoke about the issue of suicide during an interview with BBC Newsbeat.
  • Bennington was the godfather of his friend Cornell’s son Christopher Nicholas.
  • Bennington bought a mansion worth $2.5million in Los Angeles for his family just about two months before he committed suicide.
