“Deal With It” by Ashnikko (ft. Kelis)
The lyrics of “Deal With It” center on Ashnikko basically telling her boyfriend to bounce and rubbing her developed disdain for him in his face. The implication is that he is some type of a toxic partner – a d**k as alluded to in the first verse. As such, the sentiments expressed serve as a form of the vocalist’s liberation from dude and by extension this relationship that is stressing her out. Indeed she has come to the conclusion that her freedom and overall happiness is more important than having a man.
Release Date of “Deal With It”
This song is part of Ashnikko’s debut mixtape, Demidevil. Parlophone Records and Warner Records released the track on 12 January 2021. It was the third single from that project. And the release date of Demidevil overall has been moved up due to the physical copies of the project being shipped prematurely.
Featuring Kelis
This track lists American R&B artist Kelis as a feature, but in actuality it relies partially on the sample of a well-known track she dropped back in 1999 entitled “Caught Out There”. Thus the writers of that song, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (aka The Neptunes) are also credited as co-writers of “Deal With It”. And track’s other writers are Ashnikko and the following:
- Dagny N. Sandvik
- Max Wolfgang
- Mark Crew
- Dan Priddy
- Slinger (acted as producer too)
Music Video
The music video to this track was directed by a music video director named Charlotte Rutherford. It features Ashnikko transforming into a monster clad in tentacles, with the singer herself describing the song as her “tentacle break-up fantasy brought to life”. The visual is also said to have been influenced by the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise.
