“Done” by Young Lyric

Perhaps, in trying to summarize Young Lyric’s “Done”, we can say that it’s an ideological love song being relayed by a female vocalist who is straight ‘hood. But more to the point, as implied by the title, is it centering on her addressing romantic interests whom she has deemed less-than-ideal.

And in that regard, there appears to be three kinds of men who Young Lyric particularly disdains. One would be guys who don’t chase money, and, using deductive reasoning, we may also say broke dudes.

Second would be the ones who allow her to dominate them. And yes, Lyric does seem quite domineering. Or in the very least she’s a lady that you wouldn’t want to physically threaten, since she’s running with “them hittas” and all. And in that regard, the vocalist also lets fellow females know not to try to play her like that.

And third, of course, would be cheaters. Lyric is the type that, due to her career, spends a lot of time on the road. And while out chillin’ and making bread, she doesn’t want her mind to be preoccupied with what her man is doing back home. Or at least such is the situation that defines the third verse leading into the subsequent pre-chorus.

And the vocalist’s response, at the behest of her team, is to permanently cut said dude off. And with that in mind, the second verse does sound a bit more true-to-life than the first. It may be that this particular segment is based on Young Lyric’s romantic relationship with NBA YoungBoy, a well-known womanizer, which was first announced slightly before the release of this track.

In Short

So again, the vocalist is basically letting it be known that she’s not the type of woman to try to tone with romantically. Once she’s had enough of a romantic interest, as in he proceeds to turn her off, then Young Lyric is “done” with him.

It may be that the guy is too passive or overly-aggressive or a womanizer. Either way, she doesn’t seem keen on tolerating any type of romance-related discomfort or abuse. Or let’s say that, as presented, the vocalist has more important things to worry about then some immature dude.

Who is Young Lyric?

There doesn’t seem to be much online at the moment concerning Young Lyric. What is known is that, being born in the year 2000, she began uploading songs onto YouTube at a very young age, i.e. in 2010.

And throughout the decade she was heralded as an up-and-coming teen rapper, even reportedly appearing on a televised reality contest called The Rap Game

Also interesting to note is that a couple of years back she dated fellow rapper NBA YoungBoy and is also reportedly a signee James Prince’s Rap-A-Lot Records, a label based in her hometown of Houston.
