“Electric” by Katy Perry

Katy Perry’s “Electric” is a song of both inspiration and encouragement. It commences with the vocalist prodding an unfulfilled and seemingly-depressed addressee to make a power move out into the unknown. In other words, as argued, fulfillment is not going to be achieved by sitting on your behind.

Moreover, there is a “big world” out there to see and experience. And now is the time to make the move, as there’s no advantage to waiting. And amidst all of the insinuations towards shall we say blind bravado, Katy Perry also acknowledges that there will be failures along the way. But when such does transpire, the addressee is advised to “get up” and continue pressing forward anyway.

Then, the second verse begins by recognizing that venturing out as such, despite being a “big step”, is just one part of the process. In fact there is a “long road” that has to be traversed. But it’s not as if the addressee is partaking of such alone. There are also others who are apparently on their own respective journeys.

And at times the paths of such individuals cross, as seemingly has those of the singer and addressee. And what she is telling him, as further encouragement, is that she has his back. Furthermore, she concludes the second verse by once again alluding to the unavoidable challenges ahead. But Katy is also confident that if the addressee remains “headstrong”, he or she will make it “through the fire”.

Chorus of “Electric”

And it also upon such a premise that the chorus, and it can even be said the entire song is based. Some of these aforementioned challenges will be in the form of other people “try(ing) to bring” the recipient of Katy Perry’s words “down”. But said individual “now” possesses “the power” to overcome such.

And if he or she does “believe it” and presses forward accordingly, then they may realize an “electric” life. Or put otherwise, this state of existence reads as if it may be – for lack of a more concise description – the fulfillment of one’s destiny.

And first off, realizing such takes initiative. But even more importantly is the persistence which must be practiced throughout.  Indeed all lyrics considered, it can be gleaned that this perseverance and everything it entails is the only ingredient necessary for one’s life to be ‘electrified’.
