Falling in Reverse – The Drug In Me Is Reimagined

Falling in Reverse’s “The Drug In Me Is Reimagined” is apparently intended to be some type of love song. However, in all honesty the topics it deals with the most is life and death. In fact it is quite existential in its approach, with the singer questioning the ultimate meaning of life in his own way. But the addressee would apparently be his romantic interest. And basically the role she serves is as being his counselor so to speak, as in the one he is expressing his mental issues to.

Said mental issues are apparently centered on his belief that death is coming for him, as in he may die soon. Or perhaps more realistically, his mind is being plagued by something which has transpired in the past. And considering the nature of title, perhaps the true, underlying theme of this track is drug abuse.

So conclusively, regardless of the imagery associated with this tune, on the surface at least it is not based on romance. Rather the lyrics are indicative of some type of internal struggle the singer is going through which apparently he feels that the addressee, i.e. his girlfriend, can help him to some degree overcome.

The writers of this song are Falling in Reverse’s frontman Ronnie Radke along with David Holdredge and Michael “Elvis” Baskette.

What’s the difference between this and the original?

To the best of our understanding, it would be the instrumental or melody, as the lyrics are virtually identical except for the outro.

In addition to the above, Ronnie sings this version more passionately than the original. The sheer passion with which he sings this remake makes the audience experience the feelings of the song’s lyrics in a more personalized manner.

So all in all, we feel this version is more moving and more emotional than the original.

I absolutely have been enthralled by this new version of Radke’s (FIR) first big hit. Love the cellos and Radke being a pianist on that grand piano. So raw, so moving and then your hit with that explosive ending! The original is good fun but this is especially emo. One of the best songs I’ve heard in a while.

I can’t help but think of someone that’s going through a dark time with this song the first time he showed it to me I thought it was quite beautiful but I could sense the pain and struggle he was going through I knew I wasn’t going to be able to help him he has to save himself and it hurted me having to let him go but that’s what you need to do when you love someone as hard as I did, he didn’t see what I saw in him it’s only a matter of time he realizes it.

For me, this song means something completely different. I came across this song whenever my boyfriend and I were struggling with separation due to family issues. Because of my family not being able to completely accept us being together, we were forced to be apart until the moment came where my boyfriend and I could take care of and love each other. For me, this song is about going through a dark time. It is about coming to the realization that something you lost might stick with you forever, and also the fear that you might eventually die without it. When you miss something so much that you’re willing to leave everything behind for it… thats love. When you’re so afraid that youre never going to be able to be with the person that means everything to you… thats fear. Whenever he says ¨the drug in me is you¨ he is saying that because a drug slowly kills you, but you cant get enough of it. Just like being apart from your lover can slowly kill you if you’re in love with them.
