“Happiest Year” by Jaymes Young

“Happiest Year” by singer Jaymes Young is a rather-unorthodox love song. Yes, like many others it is founded on the singer lamenting over a lost love. But he is not necessarily expressing a desire to get her back. Rather he is thanking her for the good times they have shared together, which he refers to as “the happiest year of (his) life”.

The majority of the track actually features Jaymes reminiscing on this romance. And everything was not gravy, as in there were times when both he and his lover hurt each other pretty good. But overall, as mentioned earlier, his sentiment is tantamount to pure appreciation. Indeed at the same time they were quarreling, she served as his “medicine”. Furthermore, she held his heart in such a way that he “couldn’t quit” despite whatever discontent may have been present.

Owing to this, he kicks off the song by expressing regret for ever breaking up with her. And he also concludes by stating a desire to go back in time and relive the “happiest year” of his life, which was by her side. But at the same time, he is interestingly not necessarily asking her to get back with him.  Rather, as stated earlier, he is just showing her love for the experiences she has already given him.
