Hinder’s “Lips of an Angel”

“Lips of an Angel” is a hit single from the rock band Hinder. It tells the tale of a man finding it difficult to remain faithful to his current partner simply because he still has strong feelings for his former girlfriend, whom in his eyes has lips comparable to that of an angel.

And it is apparent that said ex-girlfriend also still has strong feelings for him, considering she called him pretty late at night just to talk to him. And this late night call makes it even more difficult for him to forget about her. At the end of the day, he is missing her badly to the point where he is even wishing she was his current girlfriend.

As the song progresses, it becomes even more and more apparent that both of them haven’t actually moved on. However, considering the narrator is already in a new relationship, it is not likely they might be able to get back together. And it is for this reason he concludes the song with the question:

“Honey why you callin’ me so late?”

Analysts believe the question above isn’t meant to be interpreted literally. It is a metaphor for the fact that she’s getting back in touch with him late in life (when he has found someone new).

Austin Winkler talks about “Lips of an Angel”

According to Austin Winkler (who is the band’s singer), a real life experience inspired the song. And said experience had to do with Winkler finding it very difficult saying goodbye to his former girlfriend despite the fact that the relationship was beyond over.

Winkler co-wrote “Lips of an Angel” with his bandmate Brian Howes. The track’s producer Brian Howes also assisted the duo write it.

According to Winkler, it took him about thirty minutes to write the lyrics of this song.

This was a number 1 hit for Hinder in Australia and New Zealand. Furthermore, rose to a peak position of 3 and 1 on the Billboard’s “Hot 100” and “Mainstream Top 40” charts, respectively. It ended up selling over 4 million units in the United States.

Yes. In 2006, American country singer Jack Ingram recorded his version. Ingram’s version (which appears on his “This Is It” album) was also pretty successful in America.

The “Extreme Behavior” Album

The album, “Extreme Behavior” was officially released on September 27 of 2005 by Hinder, an American rock band. It happens to be the band’s debut studio album. “Extreme Behavior” is responsible for Hinder’s first major hit singles, “Get Stoned” and “Lips of an Angel”.

Recording took place at the Armoury Studios located in the western Canadian city of Vancouver. One of Canada’s finest songwriters/record producers, Brian Howes was in charge of the album’s production. “Extreme Behavior” was officially released through Universal Records.

The album was No. 1 in Australia. In New Zealand, it reached No. 9. It peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 168 on the OCC in the UK.

“Extreme Behavior” enjoyed a 3x platinum certification by the RIAA in the US. Furthermore, it received certifications from other countries including platinum certifications from Canada’s Canada Music as well as Australia’s ARIA.

The album’s cover, depicting an unidentified female dressed in lingerie, sparked some controversies. Many music pundits were of the assertion, the lady was American actress Katherine Heigl. For more conservative markets like in the Middle East, an edited version of the album cover was used.
