“I Know There’s Something Going On” by Frida
Frida was formerly a member of the renowned Swedish musical group ABBA. And one of the good things about the songs this grouping tends to put out is that they’re easy to understand. Such is the case with Frida’s “I Know There’s Something Going On”. As a matter of fact, the title alone gives you a pretty clear indication of the subject matter it is based on. And that is, succinctly put, the lover’s romantic partner cheating on her.
In the first verse she delineates details she’s gathered to support such a belief. So whereas her partner has never come forth explicitly and stated that he is seeing someone else, still the songstress is able to deduce that “there’s something going on”.
The second verse centers on the emotional pain she is going through after coming to this realization. The hardest part is having to deal with the ‘loss of a friend’, which indicates that the role her lover plays in her life extends beyond the realm of romance.
So basically, the singer is preparing for the inevitable. By her estimation all the signs are there that her significant other is seeing someone else while simultaneously losing interest in her. So she understands that it ‘won’t be long before he’s gone’, as in their relationship is inevitably coming to an end.
