“It Is What It Is” by Jamie Miller

Jamie Miller described “It Is What It Is” as one which is intended to encourage his fans during dark times they may respectively endure. But more specifically, what he is actually speaking to is a failed romantic relationship.

And he takes a pretty interesting approach initially when it comes to dissing his ex, the addressee. That is to say that this piece doesn’t commence as these songs usually tend to go, with the vocalist noting particular ways in which his ex him. What he is rather putting forth is something like they simply aren’t meant to be. And that brings us to the title, “it is what it is”, as in Jamie basically chalking up this union as one which was doomed from the start, i.e. two people being in the “wrong place” at the “wrong time”.

In the second verse, he does proceed to present the addressee as untruthful and insinuating that she did cheat or did something that broke his heart. But Jamie is not privy on perpetuating this mistake they made, if you will, by hooking up. Indeed, now he has come to embrace that idea, with finality, that this romance was an act of bad judgement.

Jamie Miller is a singer from Wales who, in 2017, participated on The Voice UK. And he fared pretty well thereupon, finishing in third place. But more importantly for his professional ambitions, shortly thereafter Miller signed a deal with Atlantic Records. 

And it is said label, in conjunction with Geaux Uptown Records, that released “It Is What It Is” on 25 march 2022. Just to note, Jamie is 24 years old at the time.
