“Lost One” by Jazmine Sullivan

“Lost One” finds Jazmine Sullivan getting quite sentimental singing about ‘losing’ someone close to her. In other words, a cherished loved one is no longer in her life. The way the situation is presented is that said individual would be her significant other, and that the two of them are on the verge of breaking up. Moreover it appears that she has past experiences in such ordeals and understands the negative consequences that will come as a result. Therefore she is trying to “make amends” before he bounces by recognizing her own flaws and basically pleading with him not to go. And if he does decide to leave anyway, she just wants to make sure that she will always retain a place in his heart.

Although it is clear that Jazmine is singing to a romantic interest, from her perspective, “Lost One” has a more macrocosmic meaning. That is to say that it was actually inspired by people close to her, including family members, who have passed away.

This track came out on 28 August 2020. It serves as single No. 1 from Sullivan’s fourth studio project. It marked her first studio project in five years. And the songstress also co-wrote the song alongside its producer, Dave Watson.
