“Main Attraction” by Jeremy Renner

The beginning of Jeremy Renner’s “Main Attraction” is based on the singer enjoying time on the open road apparently with someone he loves. In fact the implication is that the best part of this experience is spending time with this individual. So in that regard, Renner refers to her as the titular “the main attraction”.

Now who he is singing to later in the song is a matter of debate. The track definitely has a romantic undertone, as in intrinsically implying that he is singing to a lover. But considering that he created this song as part of a campaign for Jeep, a leading automobile manufacturer, in latter parts of the song especially it can be argued that he is expressing affection for the vehicle he is driving in or perhaps more-feasibly the experience of being on the open road itself as opposed to a lady.

And the music video does not seem to definitively specify which (between the lady and the vehicle/experience) is actually his “Main Attraction”. That said, it should be noted that more screen time is dedicated to depicting women than the gorgeous Jeep in Jeremy’s possession. In other words, the official music video to this song does not seem like it is promoting any brand (outside of the singer himself). So all things considered, this song reads like it is intended to simultaneously express the singer’s love for both the lady he is with and being on the open road. Or more specifically, the first verse is centered on a lady he is sharing this experience with, while the second is more focused on the experience itself.

Renner is known more for his acting career, specifically playing the role of “Hawkeye” in the highly-successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he has stated that “music has always been my first love as far as something other than my family”. And he has actually dropped a couple of songs prior to this one.
