Meaning of “One Foot” by Walk the Moon

“One Foot” is a song performed by the American-based rock band Walk the Moon. According to Nicholas Petricca, who is the band’s lead singer, the lyrics of the song is how the entire band as a whole defeated all the adversities in their professional career to get to where they currently got to.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Petricca went on to further state that the lyrics of the song were inspired by the struggles in his personal and professional lives and that of all the members of the band. According to him, despite the immense hurdles on their path to making it, they kept moving forward, even when they couldn’t clearly see what was ahead of them. Hence the famous line “one foot in front of the other”. So all in all, the song inspires listeners to keep moving on regardless of the challenges that stand in their way.

  • Many often mistake the title of the song to be “One Foot In Front of the Other” instead of “One Foot”
  • The song was released on September 22nd, 2017 as the first single from the band’s third studio album titled “What If Nothing”.

  • The song’s music video was shot at the famous Joshua Tree National Park located in southeastern California.
