Meaning of “Pamela” by The Kooks
“Pamela” is the name of a song by the English indie rock band, The Kooks. According to the song’s co-writer Luke Pritchard, the lyrics of “Pamela” are about falling in love with someone you don’t know is a mental patient. Things move smoothly at the beginning of the relationship.
However, at some point, you begin to notice she’s exhibiting certain strange behaviors. You’re a little bit concerned. At this point, you still don’t know your new flame is a mental patient. Things carry on like this until suddenly the nurses from the mental facility come for her. They put her in a straitjacket and take her back to the mental facility.
Pritchard referred to the track as a fun song. According to him, he wrote it because he needed a funny song to complete the album.
