Meaning of Solo by Myles Smith
As of the release of Solo on 15 November 2023, Myles Smith is a singer with a notable social media presence, such as nearly half-a-million followers on Instagram, back lacking in mainstream notoriety. This would in part be due to the fact that (according to Genius) he’s only dropped a couple of other songs to date. As such, as it currently stands, readily available information on Myles is scant. But judging by his Facebook and Instagram handles, “Myles Smith UK”, he’s apparently British.
Solo may prove to be his breakout song, i.e. this being Smith’s first to chart on Spotify. And Myles wrote this piece with Peter Fenn, the latter of whom also produced the track.
The Lyrics to Solo
The title of this song points to the singer having been ‘left solo’ by the addressee, who’s obviously his ex. Or put more bluntly, it reads as she has unceremoniously dumped Myles and that he has yet, if ever, to recuperate.
That’s because, at the time they were together, he was convinced that he and the addressee would remain so for “a lifetime”, as she “promised”. And in the aftermath of parting ways, he’s still in love with her. Or another way of looking at it, with Smith likening the addressee to “an angel” and all, is that he considers this person’s love to have been too much of a blessing to let go of. But that said, as implied in the first verse, she dumped him pretty quickly and now, despite being in his feelings, doesn’t come off as if she’s concerned with the emotional state that she left Myles in.
So whereas the thesis sentiment revolves on such lamentations, reading in-between the line it’s as if the vocalist is entreating his estranged sweetheart to come back into his life. It can be argued, considering the way that she hasn’t proven unfaithful to her word and is currently ignoring Myles, that said addressee is a less-than-ideal or perhaps even toxic romantic interest for him. But that does not negate the fact that, in his current state, the singer is unable to perceive how he can ever love anyone but her.
