“Solo” by Jennie

“Solo” is a 2018 single released by Jennie Kim (Jennie) of the renowned South Korean girl group Black Pink (BLACKPINK). This track finds Jennie singing about freeing herself from a romantic relationship that is very toxic. She also talks about believing in herself and learning to love herself even more.

In addressing her ex, she tells him, among other things, that  she’s a GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) sitting on her throne. She lets him know she no longer needs him and that she can make it on her own.

  • This isn’t a self-written song since singer Jennie didn’t write it. The song was written by Korean-American record producer and songwriter Teddy Park. He’s known for producing the materials of Black Pink.
  • Aside from penning “Solo”, Park also co-produced it with the assistance of another producer named 24.
  • This song was officially dropped on November 12, 2018 by YG Entertainment in collaboration with Interscope Records.
  • Two days before “Solo” was formally made available to the public for purchase, it was performed live in Seoul during a BLACKPINK concert.
  • Jennie performs this song in two languages – Korean and English.
  • This self-love themed song consists of two verses. Jennie sings the first verse completely in Korean. The second is also completely sung in English. As for the other parts of the song, they are performed in both English and Korean.
  • The release of “Solo” in November made Jennie become the first member of BLACKPINK to release a solo material.

Is there a music video for “Solo”?

Yes, there is. The song’s music video was directed by Sa Min Han. It was released on the same day as the song itself. The choreography in the clip was partly handled by Jennie.

 

Within roughly 12 hours of the clip above being released on YouTube, it garnered over 12 million views.

Does any of Jennie’s colleagues from Black Pink appear on this track?

No. This is a completely solo project for Jennie.
