Meaning of “Solo” by Future

The lyrics of “Solo” appear to be primarily addressed to Future’s close associates, both male and female alike. And its ascertainable message, as relayed in the verses, is that being near to Hendrix results in an edified life, particularly from a monetary/material perspective. Or put more bluntly, as inferred he spends a lot of money on his friends.

The chorus also seems to be faithful to that idea, to some degree. For example, it isn’t abundantly clear what Future means when the rapper asserts that he’s “been going solo now”. But in context with the lines that precede that statement, perhaps that’s his way of putting forth that he’s so famous that sometimes he has to branch out on his own, on the low, as moving with a second party attracts unwanted attention, considering how much money he spends on his companions and all.

But again, that’s just our way of trying to make sense out of the titular statement. As for the thesis sentiment of “Solo”, it’s pretty clear that Future is indirectly bragging about his wealth by rather pointing out how he enriches others. But there are parts of this song, such as the chorus, bridge, refrain and outro, which leave something to be desired in terms of understandability.

“You got maids right now, you got it made right now
I won’t let you down, I won’t let you down
Like 4 right now, it’s like 4 right now
Like 4 right now, it’s like 4 AM right now
We can’t be too discrete, ni–as gon’ know right now
Got my name too big, everybody know right now
I enjoyed our time, we been on the low for a while
I been solo now, I’ve been going solo now”
