“My Truck” by Breland

As noted later in the article, Breland’s “My Truck” falls into a category of music known as country-trap, which most easily explained would be a hybrid of country and rap. And concerning the former, that influence would apparently be more evident in the audio and music video as opposed to the lyrics themselves.

Concerning the lyrics, this reads more or less like your quintessential rap song centered on an individual who is warning others not to play him too close. However, in this particular case, the chorus is quite different. How so? Therein the vocalist puts forth that it is virtually impossible to offend him, unless you to “touch (his) truck”, thus the title of the song.

Perhaps the way the lyrics are influenced by the country genre are by being based on sort of a wild west theme. In other words, whereas Breland lyrically presents himself as someone who rolls the streets with a firearm that he’s ready to use if pressed, in reality he’s more of a peace-loving guy.

So maybe we can say something like he’s playing the role of your quintessential outlaw. And it is common knowledge that the said lifestyle is one which country music types are known to idealize. However, in Breland’s case there is definitely an urban element also.

Indeed the music video may have a rugged-looking background, but the type of truck he’s promoting in the lyrics isn’t one you’d necessarily take to the outback. But this dichotomy may be addressed in the fact that this piece has generally been interpreted as sort of an appreciation of truck culture in general.
