“Beers On Me” by Dierks Bentley, Breland & HARDY

“Beers on Me” was conceived during the notorious coronavirus lockdowns. And as implied by Dierks Bentley during one of his explanations of the piece, said reality served as a premise to the song, i.e. the idea that after having endured mutual hardship, it would be cool if we all got a break.

But as far as said hardship goes, the way the lyrics are presented are not within the context of a mass suffering but rather that which respective listeners may be going through. For instance, as illustrated in Hardy’s verse, it could be problems as conventional as being overworked or your girlfriend wanting to bounce.

So the vocalist understands that we’re all going through it, one way or another. This may be especially true, if you will, in a setting like a bar, where this song is primarily set. So that’s why he’s proclaiming “beers on me”, which is to say that anyone in the venue can cop a beer, but he will pay for it.

And of course, downing a beer is not going to make whatever type of problem one is facing disappear. However, it does bring temporary, alcohol-induced relief, which is what this piece is ultimately speaking, i.e. taking the time to push your problems aside.

Breland, the Rapper steps in

Meanwhile Breland, being a rapper and all, takes a more braggadocious approach, confronting the elephant in the room. In other words, the reason that buying beers for an entire bar full of people can be considered a grand act of kindness is because it will also likely prove to be an expensive one.

But Breland is letting it be more directly known, as implied by Dierks earlier on, that money ain’t a thing. Or stated more plainly, he has more than enough to booze the entire house out. Therefore the addressee shouldn’t hesitate to not only grab a cup but to also bring his friends along, as by the looks of things the vocalist’s own personal brewski stash won’t be depleted anytime soon.

The aforementioned notion is reiterated in the chorus, i.e. Dierks’s willingness to absorb the cost of this act of kindness, no matter how high the bill may run.

In Conclusion

This may not be a song that all readers can appreciate in practice, as many of us may not consume alcohol. But as for fans of artists like Dierks Bentley, they seem to appreciate the titular act. And as far as the thesis sentiment goes, “Beers on Me” isn’t as much about boozing as it is randomly, so to speak, empathizing with your fellow man.
