“One Day” by MONSTA X

The logical deduction would be that the addressee of “One Day” is a romantic interest of the vocalist, and more specifically it would appear being akin to his ex. By the looks of things, their relationship never got as far as Kihyun and the boys idealized. Yet and still, the vocalist seems to have been thoroughly smitten enough to currently be in his feelings, in the aftermath of the addressee’s departure. So what the title symbolizes is his hope that “one day” the two of them will reunite.

So the implication is that if there was any dumping was committed, the addressee was one who did so. Indeed she may well have personality issues, at least from the perspective of other people in the vocalist’s life. But as for him personally, most simply put he misses her greatly.

But it isn’t as if he’s begging her to come back or anything like that. In fact in the second verse, the vocalist goes as far as to “wishes (her) the best with somebody new”. Yet him being mature about the situation doesn’t minimize the associated sorrow he’s experiencing in his heart.

So as it currently stands, the vocalist has been reduced to sort of an emotional mess, i.e. someone who is relying on intoxication to dull his broken heart and who is having a very difficult time accepting the fact that the woman he loves is gone.

So the narrator comes off as if he is hoping beyond hope, if you will, that along those same lines she will “one day” come to miss him just as much.

Monsta X

Monsta X is a boy band from South Korea that has been around since 2015. Between then and now, they have proven massively successful in their homeland and to a lesser degree in nearby Japan. 

Monsta X has also popped up on the Billboard 200 a couple of times, i.e. both of their English studio albums charting in the US, including 2020’s “All About Luv”, which peaked at number 5 on the list. And this is an act that is backed by Starship Entertainment, the same label responsible for the release of “One Day”.

Monsta X was originally a septet but was reduced down to six members in 2019, which is also how the group stands as of the release of this track. And those six individuals are as follows:

• I.M
• Joohoney
• Kihyun
• Minhyuk
• Shownu

Their other former member of the crew was Wonho who was compelled to leave the group after rumors of him illegally using marijuana surfaced. However, as a soloist he has retained a professional relationship with Starship Entertainment, being most notably signed to one of their subsidiaries, Highline Entertainment.

Release Date of “One Day”

“One Day” was officially released via Starship Entertainment on the 10th of September, 2021.

In addition to acting as the lead single from “The Dreaming”, Monsta X’s second English-language studio album, “One Day” is also the opening track on the LP’s playlist.

Something Interesting

Interesting to note is that amongst Monsta X’s English-language efforts is a 2019 single titled “Who Do U Love?”, which is actually a collaboration with Moroccan-American rapper French Montana.

This group’s moniker reads as if it was inspired by the fictional “Monster X”, a character from the Godzilla universe, i.e. the long-running movie franchise that originated in Japan. But reportedly, their name officially stands for “monsters conquering the K-pop scene” or alternatively “mon”, which in French is “my”, “star”. And as for the “X”, it is meant to symbolize the unknown.
