“Party All the Time” by Eddie Murphy

During the peak of his fame in the 1980s, comedian/Hollywood superstar Eddie Murphy began his quest to become a viable, non-comedic pop singer. This resulted in a number of memorable Murphy songs from that era, such as “Party All the Time”.

The theme of this track is the unfaithfulness of the singer’s girlfriend. Or as Murphy puts it, she “wants to party all the time” as opposed to playing her proper role in the relationship. More specifically she “hang(s) out all night” “in clubs… dancing”, entertains men who flirt with her and even gets romantically involved with them. And in the process of doing so, she neglects Eddie, despite the fact that he spends a grip on her as to show his affection.

So regardless of how this track may sound on the surface, it is not actually a party song, at least not from the singer’s perspective. Rather it is centered on Murphy complaining about a girlfriend who is so hooked on the night life that her actions are negatively affecting their relationship.
