“Spank Bank” by Goldfinger

Goldfinger has now been around for four decades, dropping eight studio albums between 1996 and 2020. So this act may not be the most commercially successful, but they do have longevity.

In terms of their overall success, one of Goldfinger’s albums thus far – “Open Your Eyes”, a project backed by Mojo Records and Jive Records – has appeared on the UK Albums Chart. And “Spank Bank”, which was released on 7 May 2002, is one of the track’s found on that LP.

The writing and production of this song is credited to the entirety of the band, which at the time, besides frontman John Feldmann, consisted of guitarist Brian Arthur, bassist Kelly LeMieux and drummer Darrin Pfeiffer. To note co-founder John Feldmann, who also produced the track, is the only member of that quartet who is still active as a Goldfinger member.

WHAT IS A “SPANK BANK”?

This is one of those kinds of songs where, if upon reading the title you presume that the vocalist is referring to something naughty, then yes, you’re spot on. That is to say that the act of ‘spanking’ is a pretty well-known colloquialism, which actually points to the practice of male self-pleasure.

So all lyrics considered, the “spank bank of lust” the vocalist is referring to would be those types of po-n shops you find in places such as some big cities stateside, like Goldfinger’s hometown of Los Angeles.

At such venues a patron can for instance slot “half a buck” into a machine and be treated to a minute or two of po-n-gr-phy, having a number of different “channels”, i.e. categories and titles, to choose from.

It can prove an addictive practice for some, as with the vocalist at hand, since by only offering a teaser for your money, the goal is to have patrons keep paying for more, sort of like a slot machine, in a manner of speaking. And of course with customers tending to only be excited men, a lot of mast*rb*tion going on in such establishments, and given the nature of the spank-for-money transactions, many of such individuals do become addicted.

And so it is with the character that John is portraying. On one hand, he’s “trying to break away” and “escape… from” this modus operandi.  But in closing, he also admits that he does have the desire to “see a she-male f*–ing… just a little bit”. In other words, as a visitor to a “spank bank”, he is exposed to all types of legal adult-themed images and videos. And some of those, even the freakier types, he has developed an interest in.

“SPANK BANK”, AN EXERCISE IN KEEPING IT REAL

So conclusively, the best we can conclude is that this is an exercise in keeping it real on the part of Goldfinger (whose moniker, just to set the record straight, comes from a James Bond character. Here, Feldmann is frankly admitting that at least during that stage in his life, he had a thing for visiting sex shops.

And presumably the reason he is doing so is to bravely, if you will, relate with others who are going through the same affliction, since back in the days, before the advent of internet p–n so to speak, se* shop addiction was real. But that said, it’s also pretty obvious that John isn’t letting himself get bent too out of shape for having this fetish.

“To the spank bank of lust
Gay, straight, bi-curious
Just makes me furious
Spank bank of lust
32 Channels
I don’t wanna see a
She-male f—ing”
