Steely Dan
Steely Dan is a jazz rock band formed in 1972 in New York. It was formed by the following core members:
- Donald Fagen
- Walter Becker
The duo met while attending Bard College in New York.
Donald and Walter eventually moved to California where they released their debut album, “Can’t Buy a Thrill,” in November of 1972.
The said album was responsible for the following hit singles:
“Reelin’ In the Years”
Those singles were to a large extent responsible for bringing the band into the limelight. In addition, the group has released several other popular songs such as:
“Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me)”
Other notable albums from the band include:
- “Pretzel Logic”
- “The Royal Scam”
- “Aja”
Despite their success, Steely Dan was plagued by interpersonal tension between Fagen and Becker, and the band went into hibernation in 1981. They however reunited in the early 1990s and continued to release albums and tour until Becker’s death in 2017.
