Stone Sour’s “Tired” Lyrics Meaning

“Tired” is a hard rock song recorded and released by Stone Sour. In explaining the meaning of “Tired”, Corey Taylor said it is about “recrimination of the older ways”. He referred to the song as one that shows the dangers of “internal war”. According to him, “internal war” is not only costly but also very draining. And as if that isn’t enough, its harmful effects destroy the human being’s objective “to be better at life”. He revealed this in a Facebook post on the band’s official Facebook page back in 2014.

But who is the “mad chameleon” in the lyrics?

Based on the above explanation of the lyrics by Corey himself, it is apparent that the “Mad Chameleon” the narrator talks about is basically referring to himself. This would be the good and bad part of himself (a trait inherent in everybody). The best way to describe it would be the case of “Jekyll and Hyde” (i.e. a two sided kind of personality). One personality is evil whereas the other is good. These two personalities often fight against each other. This is what Corey refers to as “internal war”.

The narrator has apparently realized how harmful this “Mad Chameleon” is to him and therefore wants it to stay away from him. Hence the line:

“Tell the mad chameleon he’s not welcome anymore”
