“This Is the Night” by Clay Aiken

Clay Aiken’s “This Is the Night” is a love song, in which the vocalist has resolved to make most of the evening with his significant other. His disposition, at least in part, is based on the idea that tomorrow is not to be taken for granted.

And that notion was actually introduced into the narrative as a result of this tune being released freshly post-9/11.  In that regard, what it is meant to relay is an idea like giving your loved ones their flowers while they can smell them.

And with that in mind, truth to be told there isn’t really any explicitly-romantic language found in the lyrics. But this being a romantic love song is definitely the logical implication nonetheless, considering for instance that a metaphor like perceiving ‘heaven in someone’s eyes’ isn’t the type of thing you would say to your mom.

And even beyond the general sentiment of appreciation, it would seem that this may also be the night where the vocalist is making some type of big move with the addressee, perhaps resolving to make love to him/her for the first time, or something like that.

Like he’s feeling that type of amorous vibe and wants to capitalize on it. Indeed it can even be said that he’s going to try something bolder, like proposing marriage, taking into consideration that he uses language like “all our tomorrows begin after tonight”.

What is conclusive though is that whatever he’s intending, it represents some type of milestone in his relationship with the addressee.
