“Time Will Wait For No One” by Local Natives
Local Natives is a rock band from Los Angeles. They’re of the indie variety, so it is possible that you never heard of them. But this crew, which consists of frontmen Taylor Rice and Kelcey Ayer backed by instrumentalists Ryan Hahn, Matt Frazier and Nik Ewing, have made some noise along the way. For instance, their second studio album, “Hummingbird”, peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and broke the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart.
And even though not experiencing as much mainstream chart success these days as in days past, Local Natives remain in the game with the release of “Time Will Wait for No One” on 7 July 2023 via Loma Vista Records, marking their fifth studio album. So the song we’re looking at today serves as that project’s title track, as well as being the first on its playlist.
Credits
The members of this band are individually credited with writing this song as well as co-producing it as a collective, with its other co-producer being John Congleton.
Lyrics of “Time Will Wait For No One”
Going back to this being the opening track on the album, it is also by far the project’s shortest, basically serving as an intro. Furthermore, this song isn’t very wordy. So it’s hard to determine what the phrase “time will wait for no one” means in context based on it alone.
As generally understood, the titular adage points to the idea that everybody, no matter what, ages. But it can also be taken in more specific contexts. For instance, it has been suggested that what Local Natives may be speaking to is that fact that now, whether they want to be or not, they are middle-agers on the more youth-oriented rock music scene.
However, what is also being implied in these lyrics, in a manner of interpretation, is that the addressee is a romantic interest. Or at least that’s one way of taking it when the singer tells this person that despite the fact “time will wait for no one”, he “will wait for” her or him.
