One of the most famous, renowned, and legendary pop stars on the planet is American songwriter, singer, actress, and dancer Britney Jean Spears. Britney Spears is better known as the “Princess of Pop” because of her enormous contributions that helped revive the teen pop genre during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The pop star is regarded among the all-time best-selling artists globally, having sold over 150 million records worldwide.

Her two studio albums, “Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again” broke the world record for best-selling albums of all time.

In addition to her success in the music industry, Britney has had a successful acting career. She has appeared in a number of television shows and movies.

She has even earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Britney served as a judge of the popular talent show, “The X Factor.” She is also noted for her feats in the perfume industry. She has released over 20 fragrances and sold over 50 million bottles of her perfume brand through the renowned cosmetic company Elizabeth Arden.

Early Life & Relationships

She was born in McComb, Mississippi, to James Parnell Spears and American author Lynne Irene Bridges. Britney was raised alongside American film and television producer Bryan James Spears, her big brother, and popular actress and singer Jamie Lynn Marie Spears, her little sister.

Her parents discovered that she had a talent for singing and dancing at a tender age, as she was often found singing and dancing no matter the situation around her. She was taken through extensive dance and vocal lessons and won numerous state competitions and children’s talent events.

At age 8, she auditioned for the popular TV series, “The All-New Mickey Mouse Club,” but she was denied the role because of her young age. Her love for music led her to record several demo tapes, which she sent to numerous New York record labels as an upcoming talent. However, it was at Jive Records that she finally signed her first record deal. She has achieved massive success in her career at the label and has set out to become the star today.

She has been married twice and has been linked to dating a few other men. She started dating singer Justin Timberlake in early 1999 but broke it off in 2002.

She dated rapper Fred Durst in 2003; however, the relationship ended the same year. Her first marriage was with her childhood friend and actor Jason Alexander in 2004. Surprisingly, it only lasted for 55 hours, as they both signed for the annulment of the marriage.

She became romantically involved with Kevin Federline in 2004. They got married in September, just three months after they had met. They had two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. In July 2007, they sadly got divorced due to Britney’s mental health and some personal issues with Kevin.

As of June 2021, she was still in a relationship with Sam Asghari, a model and trainer. The two met at a video shoot in 2016.

She has sold over 100 million records worldwide and more than 70 million records in the United States, making her one of the all-time best-selling music artists on the planet. In addition, she was ranked as the fourth all-time best-selling female album artist during the era of the Nielsen SoundScan in the United States. 

In December 2009, Billboard ranked her as the eighth-best Artist of the 2000s decade in the United States. In 2016, Billboard again ranked her twentieth on their “Greatest of All Time Top Dance Club Artists” list. In addition, she is among the very few artists in Billboard’s history to have had a number 1 single and album in the first three decades of their careers.

As of 2021, she had broken 14 Guinness World Records. As a teenager in 2000, she broke the Guinness World Record with her first studio album, “Baby One More Time,” as it became the best-selling album by a Teenage Solo Artist. In the same year, she became the Guinness World record holder for Teenage Female Solo Artist with the most number 1 hit songs in the US.

As of 2012, her perfume brands with Elizabeth Arden Incorporated had exceeded $1.5 billion worth of sales worldwide. In addition, in 2002 and 2013, Forbes ranked her as the highest-paid female musician in the world.

Interesting Facts & Trivia

When she was in middle school, she worked family jobs to earn some spending money. She worked as an aerobics instructor at her father’s gym and a waiter at her great-grandmother’s crawfish restaurant.

During her high school education, she was involved in several sporting activities and was even the point guard on the basketball team.

She got her first professional stage performance at age 10, as the lead in an Off-Broadway musical titled, Ruthless. Then, in 1992 and at age 12, she was cast in the popular TV series “The Mickey Mouse Club” alongside Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and Justin Timberlake.

Before she embarked on a successful solo music career, she was briefly the leading member of a girl band group called Innosense. The group, which also included “Akward” star Nikki DeLoach, was created by Backstreet Boys and Lou Pearlman, the manager of NSYNC.

She has had a short-lived, long-distance relationship with English royalty Prince William. During an interview in 2002, she admitted that she exchanged flirty emails for a short period with the Prince. However, they never went on their proposed date and never met during this period. 

Although one of the most popular stars on the planet, she likes to enjoy a little anonymity. She often travels and books hotel rooms incognito under the pseudonyms Queen of the Fairy Dance, Alotta Warmheart, Mrs. Diana Prince (a nod to Princess Diana), Mrs. Abra Cadabra, and many more names invented on the spot. 

The city of Las Vegas marked November 5, 2014, as a holiday because of Britney Spears. She was presented with an official proclamation and the key to the city on that day. As a result, November 5 is now known as Britney Day in Las Vegas and is now a city-wide yearly tradition to celebrate her positive impact and influence on the city throughout her long-term residency.
