“You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins

The foundation of Phil Collins’ song, “You’ll be in my heart” is love and protection. It strongly speaks about assuring a loved one that you will always be there to keep them safe and cared for through thick and thin.

The kind of love described by Phil Collins here is quite defensive and implies that the person at the receiving end is either too young to fend for himself. Although the person seems fragile, the songwriter believes they are strong enough to endure tough times for their love.

It begins by offering comfort to the loved one who is probably faced with an adversary or a challenging situation and assuring them of security .

Collins gently beckons his loved one to trust him and not worry about the actions of others. The love is mutual and Collins states clearly that the bond they share cannot be broken despite their physical differences.

There are some who do not agree with the relationship and vie against it, but Phil encourages the devotee not to pay attention to them but hold on to their love.

It gets even more emotional as he reveals that even if they are separated by destiny, he will still cherish her forever in his heart.
In all, the song mainly dwells on loving someone to the end, against all odds.

Phil Collins is said to have originally began writing the song as a lullaby for his daughter Lily Collins before it was fully composed and featured on Disney’s Tarzan in 1999.

I love the song for the most part. But there’s a part that makes me think it was written for an impossible or taboo-ish love
