Within the timespan of about two months, Miley Cyrus had separated from her husband, dated another lady and as of the release of “Golden Thing” is now apparently moving with Australian singer Cody Simpson. At least that’s what’s perceived to be the premise behind this song – his affection for Smiley Miley. Indeed the neckline which dominates the cover art is reportedly a pic of Cyrus herself.
But of course he never mentions her by name. Instead he refers to her by such appellations as a “Cali queen” (Miley Cyrus actually resides in L.A.). And basically, this song is an ode expressing his feelings for her and experiences with her thus far. Indeed the title is derived from “a golden thing she’s got”, with “golden thing” being a metaphor for his overall perception of her. In other words, the addressee is very much admired in the eyes of the singer. And he uses a whole lot of poetic symbolism to illustrate this point. But what it all boils down is the singer being smitten, in every way possible, by what appears to be a new love.
So if this song is indeed an expression of Cody’s love for Miley, then we can definitely conclude that he isn’t afraid to let his intimate, personal feelings for her be known to the entire world. And it remains to be seen if Cyrus will reciprocate this love or if Simpson proves to be another one of her flings.
