“Code Red” by AC/DC

According to the in-the-know music publication Rolling Stone, this track is about the singer tearing down the highway. And whereas that does seem to be one of its subjects, there’s apparently a lot more going on here. Or perhaps we can say that the reason this is a “code red”, i.e. emergency, situation is because on top of being hyped behind the wheel the singer seems to have some ill intentions on his mind. Indeed by the looks of things, he may actually be using the occasion to hunt down an enemy. And the title of the song would point to a forewarning he is giving this person – or perhaps an alert being shared amongst law enforcement – as a result of the threat he poses.

This is the final song on the playlist of AC/DC’s Power Up album, which came out on 13 November 2020.

Said project was handled by two of the world’s biggest record labels, Columbia and Sony Music.

This song was written by Angus Young with additional credit being given to his late brother, Malcolm Young, who passed in 2017. And the track was produced by another vet in the music industry, Brendan O’Brien.

Did AC/DC release “Code Red” as a single?

No. “Power Up” was marketed by only the following singles: “Realize” and “Shot in the Dark“.
