“Make It Out Alive” by McFly

What it appears the narrator of “Make It Out Alive” is trying to get at is the idea that “the masses” have grown so accustomed to “tragic moments” that now, it’s as if no one gives the prospect of impending disaster any type of serious consideration. Instead, people are going about their business as if everything is all gravy. But as for Tom Fletcher himself, he is wondering “can we make it out alive”.

And on the surface, there really isn’t much more to these lyrics than what has been theorized above. But reading in-between the lines, perhaps what McFly is trying to get at is the conclusion that people need to wake up and take certain disasters more seriously, before it’s too late, thus increasing their chances of ‘making it out alive’ when sh*t does hit the fan.

“Can we make it out alive?
Can we make it alright?”
