Alphaville

Alphaville is a German band whom, despite still being active in the 2020s, actually dates back to the early-1980s. And it was during that era that they released their biggest hits such as the following:

And concerning “Forever Young”, it was actually that song which Jay-Z interpolated on his 2009 hit “Young Forever”.

The band’s frontman, Marian Gold, has remained active part of Alphaville since their inception in 1982. Throughout the years the band’s lineup has changed considerable.  And as of 2020, in addition to Gold, it consists of the following:

  • David Goodes (guitar)
  • Jakob Kiersch (drums)
  • Carsten Brocker (keyboard)
  • Alexandra Merl (bass guitar)

And concerning the band’s unique name, they actually derived it from a movie dating back to 1965 which itself is entitled “Alphaville”.

Perhaps the most-impressive aspect of this band isn’t the fact that they were staples of the early-1980s international pop scene.  Rather it may arguably be their longevity.  For instance between 1984 and 2017 they have released eight studio albums.  And their 2017 project Forever Young (Super Deluxe Edition) managed to chart internationally, including peaking at number eight in Germany itself.
