The singer begins by confirming that this girl ended a love that he believed would have been better than anything he had experienced. The main cause of their split, he states, is because after making love to her and falling for her, there was no way he would have settled to just continue being her friend. He wanted more than that, but this girl did not want the same. This is probably why he wishes they never had sex or fell in love.

On the other hand, Trey wants her to know that they had a real connection and though she wants to forget about it, they can never erase the past. He also stresses on the fact that they could have worked things out and had a beautiful love relationship. To him, he only wanted them to move past friendship to lovers.

He however, withdraws his perception now that he has lost both a lover and a friend. He regrets the past because if they had not ventured into an emotional and sexual attachment, they would’ve remained as good friends.
