“I Can Be” by Aaliyah

The singer is addressing someone who already has a woman in his life. However she is still very much attracted to this individual. Therefore, the title and chorus is based on Aaliyah exclaiming that she “can be the other woman in (his) life”. In other words, she does not want to destroy his relationship, nor is she particularly asking to be his main squeeze. Rather on the rare occasion that he is actually free, she would like the two of them to spend intimate time together.

“I Can Be” was produced by a music producer named Bud’da. And he co-wrote the song alongside Tank who, similar to Aaliyah, is a popular R&B singer from the 1990s. Aaliyah didn’t co-write “I Can Be”.

This song is from Aaliyah’s third album, itself being entitled “Aaliyah”. And it was officially released by Blackground Records and Virgin Records on 7 July 2001.

This wasn’t one of the singles from the “Aaliyah” album. “Aaliyah” produced these three official singles:

  • “We Need a Resolution”
  • “More Than a Woman”
  • Rock the Boat
