“Loose Rap” by Aaliyah

On “Loose Rap”, Aaliyah, supported by Static Major, is dissing dudes who try to step to her with weak game. More to the point, it seems that she may be speaking to some of her industry peers. The way she presents this individual(s) is as someone who has the tendency to talk smack behind her back but then play nice in-person. But she takes it all in the name of competitive sport. Indeed she even encourages such individuals to in fact shoot their shot, though at the end of the day they’re not going to get far.

This track can be found on Aaliyah’s self-titled final album. It came out as part of said project on 7 July 2001. Virgin Records put it out in collaboration with Blackground Records, with the latter being run by Aaliyah’s uncle, Barry Hankerson.

Static Major is not only a feature on this song but also one of its co-writers. And the other co-writers are Keybeats (E. Seats and R. Stewart), who also produced the track.
