Losing a dear one brings us through a whirlwind of emotions, more so when it’s a sudden death. In “I Will Remember You”, Ed Sheeran shares his memories and feelings after hearing news of a loved one’s demise.
The sad news had him shocked. In his sorrow, Ed notices that even nature is mourning her death as sunset looked different, and rain started pouring down. However, instead of crying, he chooses to “be a shoulder” to those unable to hold their tears in.
Memories shared together with this beautiful soul fills Ed’s mind as he tries to cope with the pain. Her laughter is forever etched in his memory as she was always a ray of sunshine even on darkest days.
If only time could be rewound and things changed, but this inability to do so makes Ed feel useless. And now, the “world’s less beautiful” without her around anymore.
Release Date of “I Will Remember You”
This track was released on the 27th of May, 2022. It was part of Ed’s fifth album titled “=” that hit stores on 29th October, 2021. This project was collaboratively backed by Asylum Records and Atlantic Records.
On 26th May, Ed posted the UK track list that would be coming out the following day and asked fans to comment on their favorite. He also mentioned that some countries would get a different track list.

Who Wrote “I Will Remember You”?
Ed Sheeran is the sole credited songwriter of this song. He also produced the track, together with London-based writer and producer Joe Rubel.
Sheerios’ Reaction
A Shaeerio named Brian Meenon shared his pain of losing his 21-year old daughter to domestic violence. According to him, she was truly “the starlight in darkness” for him. He found this song very relatable.
Another Sheerio, Cindy Cole wrote that she lost her mom last month. She revealed that “I Will Remember You” has helped ease the pain from a completely broken heart.
I’m pretty sure that you missed the meaning behind that song entirely. “She” is his daughter, who he wanted to be able to scream about from the rooftops after she was born but the death of his friend overshadowed that. He calls his deceased friends son to talk about his daughter instead of being a shoulder for the son.
While the lyrics do seem to be addressing a lost loved one especially with the chorus being in past tense and how the world has changed now that she’s away, you do have an interesting point. It would be great if you could provide evidence leading to your claim for us to explore further 🙂
I took it to be about his daughters after the loss of his friend Michael and Jamal.
And maybe his wife too- a new York birthday do- they got back together at Taylor Swift birthday party in New York and cherry was working in NY.
This song is about his best friends mum who died suddenly, she met up with him in New York as I remember her telling me before she died.
…And he sang the song at her wake. Such apt words sung for a beautiful soul that passed away too soon.
