“INVU” by Taeyeon
This song is in fact premised on the concept of the vocalist being the victim of an unrequited love. But arguably, the main issue at hand isn’t the singer being convinced that the man she loves doesn’t feel the same about her. Instead, just as, if not more so disturbing is the reality that even after convincingly proving himself uninterested, the vocalist still cannot get over the addressee.
Or as Taeyeon explains in the lyrics, she’s the type of person who puts her all into a romance. That’s just who she is. So it’s as if even though, based on past experience, she knew the dangers of falling too hard, the vocalist has done so nonetheless. So by the looks of things yes, she will not be getting over the addressee anytime soon, if ever.
Meanwhile, the title of this song is actually meant to be read out ‘I envy you’. And somewhat oddly, this is a sentiment that the vocalist is relaying to her ex, not like the girl he’s currently dating. But apparently such an expression is meant to illustrate just how much she admires him.
Facts about “INVU”
This is the title track from Taeyeon’s third solo album, a project which SM Entertainment and Dreamus released on 14 February 2022. And this is also the opening track on the LP, as well as its second single.
This song was produced by PhD, a duo of musicians from Europe. Said individuals, Daniel Davidsen and Peter Wallevik, are writers of this song alongside Jess Morgan, Rachel Furner and Jinli.
Taeyeon may be better known to some readers as a member of Girls Generation, a K-pop act that has been around since the late aughts. And as far as her solo efforts go, Taeyeon’s first LP, “My Voice”, came out in 2017.
