Kelsea Ballerini’s “Homecoming Queen?” Lyrics Meaning

The best way to describe a homecoming queen is as a young lady who is a senior in high school and is formally voted as being the most-popular girl in her class. Understandably holding such a title would be taxing socially, as in such an individual being expected to always put on a happy face. And that is the reality that Kelsea Ballerini speaks to on this song.

It should be noted that Kelsea herself wasn’t a homecoming queen. Thus this song is meant to highlight a general pressure people – presumably with a special emphasis on fashionable women – feel, particularly in terms of managing unfavorable realities of their lives. And the ultimate message it is meant to convey is that it is okay to sometimes appear vulnerable. In other words, individuals should not be compelled to always appear as if they’re happy, even if they’re not. And once again, based on the title this would logically be directed at ladies who are to some degree in the public spotlight.  So in that regard, we suspect this song was influenced by the singer’s own experiences with celebrity.

I really love this song it makes me feel so happy. I normally hide my feelings when I’m depressed, so people don’t ask why I’m sad cause I hate talking about my feelings with people. I love all of kelsea Ballerina other songs, but this is one of my favorites.

I’m 65 years old: a housewife, mother and grandmother. I have never had an important social or notable position. This song is very meaningful to me because in my life I have had to hide my true feelings frequently. I believe that it is the society we live in. Many of us are like the homecoming queen.

i have an obsessive behavioral problem that i wish i never had . it has done nothing but make my life hell. i also recently discovered that i’m Bipolar. and i have these ongoing suicidal thoughts. because of it. Wishing i didn’t have to deal with this. Every day of my life. It has gotten to the point in my life that i developed social anxiety. and i choose not to let people in. because im scared of being rejected, Scared that their gonna think of me as nothing more than a stalker. When i only want for people to understand me. And not hate me. For people to give me a chance. This song means alot to me. And i can honestly say. some people are such assholes.
