“LamboTruck” by Dreamville (ft. Cozz, Reason & Childish Major)

The song “LamboTruck” is unusual in its approach in that it features the two main rappers, Cozz and Reason, beefing with their respective labels, Dreamville Records and Top Dawg Entertainment, though in a playful (by hip-hop standards) manner. The genesis of their gripe is basically that they do not feel like they are making an adequate amount of dough.

So the title of the track is based on a scheme Reason concocts to “rob” J. Cole, Cozz’s label boss, after seeing him pull up in a “Lamborghini truck”. Considering that J. Cole is a superstar rapper, this vehicle would likely be a newer edition, meaning that it would cost somewhere in the range of $200,000. So while the homeys are complaining about being “hungry” and “fiending”, Cole pulls up in this high-priced whip.

But Cozz realizes that he cannot rob Cole since “that is (his) brother” from another mother. But since Reason is “Top Dawg”, not Dreamville, he does not have the same reservations. So the homeys conclude to rob each other’s respective label bosses.  In other words, while Reason robs J. Cole, Cozz will instead rob “Top”, the head of Top Dawg Records.

Meanwhile Childish Major provides the song’s chorus. And the sentiment he seems to be expressing in it is basically the feeling which dominates the track, one of discontent in terms of the artists wanting more.
