“Love is Gangster” by Dom Kennedy
Dom Kennedy starts this masterpiece (“Love is Gangster”) by pleading to a lady he wants to start a relationship with to give him the chance. He continued that he’s going to do everything within his power to treat her right and make her happy. The narrator also makes it clear that his soon-to-be lover is irreplaceable, and not even money can make bring him joy like she does. He further made her understand that “You’re the missing piece to my puzzle” which means that he feels incomplete without her.
It can be argued that the reason why the lovers aren’t together is because probably one is holding up to his/her pride. This is because, Kennedy, in his second verse called for the two love birds to drop their pride and make things happen. He ends by saying that the presence of the lady gives him the strength to complete a lot of tasks. And perhaps that’s the reason why he likened “Love” to “gangster”.
