Lovin On Me by Jack Harlow

With Generation Now and Atlantic Records releasing this track on 10 November 2023, it marks Jack Harlow’s first single since the dropping of his third-studio album, Jackman, back in April. Jackman did sorta okay for itself, though the one single that was issued from that project, They Don’t Love It, failed to impress. In fact, Lovin on Me has already outperformed that track, in that it topped the UK Singles Chart (marking the first time Harlow has done so), the UK Hip Hop/R&B Chart and the latter’s Billboard counterpart stateside. It also made it to second place on the Billboard Hot 100 and has charted in over 15 countries overall.

It is being speculated that Lovin on Me will serve as the lead single from what will be Harlow’s fourth-studio album, whenever that project is announced. And if so, then it definitely appears to be on its way to faring better than Jackman, which peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200. And along those lines, Jack has stated that this release represents “a new era” in his musical career.

Songwriting & Production

The producers of Lovin on Me – Nik D, Oz and Sean Momberger – are also credited as its authors alongside Delbert M Greer, Nickie Jon Pabón, Reginald Nelton and Jack Harlow.

Other Facts

Lovin on Me samples a 1995 R&B track titled Whatever by Cadillac Dale, who is credited as an additional vocalist (i.e. holding down the pre-chorus) on Jack Harlow’s song.

Jack Harlow first teased this song, via TikTok, the month prior to its release.

Lyrics to Lovin on Me

Perhaps the simplest way of describing this track is as a sex song and one in which Jack proudly presents himself as an in-demand womanizer. Harlow is relatively-sanitized as far as hip-hop artists go, and as such the lyrics aren’t really anything explicit. For example, at the beginning of the chorus he does allude to enjoying some aspects of rough sex, i.e. ‘choking’ his partners, but he doesn’t do so in a NSFW way. And more to the overall point of the chorus is the vocalist letting romantic interests know that whereas he is privy to being recipient of their “lovin”, he’s not interested in a serious relationship.

So what follows is a first verse that centers on a college lady who is using the fact that she’s dating Harlow to increase her own notoriety. And presumably, the point being alluded to here is Jack’s ability to bag shorties based solely on his fame.

The second verse again illustrates that the vocalist doesn’t really favor long-term relationships. Jack also appears to have zero qualms when it comes to entertaining groupies, even those who may arrive at the venue with another man.

So all lyrics considered, it’s as if Harlow is expressing his romantic adventurism.  “Young Jack” is in a position where, as implied, he can easily get more women than the next man. And at this stage in his life, he seems intent on capitalizing on that privilege.
