Meaning of “Butterfly Doors” by Lil Pump

On the song “Butterfly Doors”, American rapper Lil Pump devotes the vast majority of the song’s lyrics to brag about the luxurious things he possesses. He mostly brags about the expensive cars that he owns. For example, in the verse, he talks about being the proud owner of multiple Lamborghinis that have butterfly doors. Here, he is basically trying to tell his listeners that these cars of his come with vertical doors.

It’s noteworthy that many an expensive, high-performance car comes with non-standard door designs. By virtue of the vertical nature in which the doors open, they end up looking like butterfly wings. Hence the name “butterfly door’.

Song features a racial slur

In the course of spitting boastful rhymes on this song, Pump makes a racial slur. The racist line in question appears to be mocking Asian people. He brags about being called “Yao Ming” because his eyes are “real low”. To add insult to injury, in the original version of the song, he had added the words “ching chong” to the line in which he talks about his eyes being “real low”.

The aforementioned lyrics took no time in prompting public backlash. Pump was so strongly condemned for those racist lyrics that he eventually took to Twitter to apologize. In addition to the apology, the song was later edited. At the end of the day, the highly offensive words were censored and some totally removed.
