Meaning of “I’ll Be There” by Jess Glynne

“I’ll Be There” is an uplifting song written and recorded by English singer-songwriter Jess Glynne. In this song, Glynne is assuring someone going through a difficult time that she’s always going to be there for them. The song was inspired by the difficult times Glynne and Camille Purcell (the song’s co-writer) had gone through and how they helped each other surmount them.

Speaking with the BBC, Purcell shed more light on the challenging times she and Glynne had overcome. According to her, they had both been through awful breakups with their respective partners. Purcell said during that challenging time, Glynne would often call her at midnight to make sure she wasn’t crying.

  • Glynne wrote this very inspirational song with a bunch of famous writers, including Camille Purcell. The other songwriters are: Finlay Dow-Smith, Jerker Hansson, Henrik Barman Michelsen and Edvard Førre Erfjord.
  • English record producer Finlay Dow-Smith (also known as Starsmith) and the Norwegian songwriting/production duo Electric produced the song. Electric is made up of Henrik Michelsen and Edvard Erfjord. Aside co-producing “I’ll Be There”, both Electric and Starsmith co-wrote it.
  • Glynne and her team released this song on May 4, 2018 as the first single from her second studio album Always In Between.
  • Just like many commercial songs, “I’ll Be There” is also written using the verse-chorus style. The song has 2 verses, 2 choruses, a bridge and an outro.
  • On the UK Singles Chart, this tune peaked at number 1. That feat gave Glynne her seventh chart topping song in the UK.
