Katy Perry – Never Worn White

The primary addressee of Katy Perry’s “Never Worn White” would be the man whom the narrator is set to marry. And in the verses and the bridge, what Katy is basically doing is celebrating the fact that her “mamma’s prayers” have been answered. In other words, she has actually fallen for a man whom she truly loves – and vice versa. And along that same vein, the title and chorus are based on the fact that the two of them are set to be married. That is to say that ‘wearing white’ points specifically to the idea of the singer being wed.

Now her acknowledging that she has “never worn white” likely has a two-fold meaning within the context of this song. On one hand, it seemingly points to the idea that the singer has never been married before (even though Katy was married prior). And we can see in the chorus that the narrator is experiencing the kind of jitters which tend to be common amongst brides-to-be. But arguably more to the point is the color white is symbolic of purity within the theme of marriage. So additionally what the singer is likely saying, as somewhat alluded to in the first verse, is that she’s never been the type of person whom you would define as an angel.

Indeed readers who have prior knowledge of Katy Perry’s musical career already know how she gets down.  So at the end of the day, we can say that the main sentiment this song is based on is the songstress feeling especially blessed to have ‘finally found forever’, as in that special someone she will spend the rest of her life with.
