“No Hay Igual” by Nelly Furtado

The title of this song (“No Hay Igual”) translates to “there is no equal”. And basically the lyrics read as if the addressee, that being the dude whom the singer is in love with, may possibly be someone she is now trying to get with in an intimate fashion. And the sentiments she is putting forth aren’t complicated ones. She comes off as a lonely woman, i.e. a lady who is longing for that special someone in her life. And she is convinced that the singer is this individual. Or stated differently, she is smitten by him. And fundamentally, the title alludes to the idea that she does not desire anyone but him. That is to say that “there’s no equal” to the romance they share together.

Facts about “No Hay Igual”

“No Hay Igual” was produced by Timbaland, Danja and Nisan Stewart. And the same trio of artists are credited with writing its lyrics in conjunction with Nelly Furtado.

But it is the songstress who is recognized as the primary writer of the song. And she did so in short order, being inspired by her introduction to reggaeton music by another legendary producer who is not actually credited with working on the song, Pharrell Williams.

This is the lead single from Nelly’s iconic “Loose” album. And it was released as such, via Geffen Records and Timbaland’s own Mosley Music Group, on 11 April 2006.

The music video to this track was actually filmed in Puerto Rico. And it was directed by a couple of filmographers who specialize in the creation of music videos by the names of Gabriel Cross and Israel Lugo.

“No Hay Igual” made an appearance on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales and Latin Rhythm Airplay charts. But even though it didn’t have an overly-impressive chart showing, critics still consider it one of the best songs on “Loose”.
