“Te Busqué” by Nelly Furtado (ft. Juanes)

It’s easy to presume that “Te Busqué” is a love song. For instance, the title translates to “I looked for you”, and the chorus is a duet featuring a man and a woman. Moreover the sentiment they are putting forth is one of rejoicing, seemingly due to discovering each other. However, what “Te Busqué” is actually about is the primary singer’s real-life battle with depression. Indeed the verses themselves are more of a solo affair, where Nelly is left alone to voice out just how low her morale had sunk.

And yes, it can be loosely interpreted that perhaps falling in love with the male vocalist lifted her out of this terrible funk. But all lyrics considered, a more-logical way of understanding the conclusive sentiment is that Furtado had some type of divine or spiritual experience. And said experience helped her overcome her dejected state. In other words, the titular “you” would be akin to a Higher Power. And looking at it from that perspective, then Juanes would be serving more of the role of backing Nelly up. He is perhaps putting forth that he underwent a similar era in his life, as opposed to portraying her lover.

“Te Busqué” Facts

“Te Busqué” is the sixth single from Nelly Furtado’s 2006 album “Loose”.  The song itself was released on 20 July of that year.

Other notable singles birthed by “Loose” include the following:

Furtado wrote this song alongside her co-star Juanes, a Columbian musician, as well as he track’s producer, Lester Mendez. She collaborated with Juanes prior on one of his 2002 tracks entitled “Fotografía”. And it should be noted that “Te Busqué” itself is a bilingual song, with the verses being in English and the choruses in Spanish.

This track reached number one in Spain, where it was specifically released to counteract the less-than-ideal showing of a couple of other singles from “Loose”. It also charted in almost 10 other countries, actually faring most impressively in the Netherlands.
