This track draws inspiration from popular video game Animal Crossing and is centered on a fictional character in the game named Tom Nook.
In the song, the narrator raps from the perspective of Nook as a boss who sells houses to new players and sometimes makes them work for a good number of Bells in order to pay their mortgage. The first verse captures his ambition and resolve not to be a loser. The second verse of the song gives more detail into how this character manages his business while priding himself as a slumlord who makes people’s lives better.
He then threatens the people owing him and reminds them of their new position which is to work hard to pay off all their debts to him. Throughout the song, the narrator seems to suggest that the real reason Tom Nook’s character brings new players to the virtual island is to fill up his own pockets and not necessarily because he cares about them.
