American rock band, Pearl Jam has separated itself from the section of non-resilient bands of their time to become one of the best Rock & Roll bands of the 1990s. They did this by outselling other alternative bands with a wide margin, thus becoming very influential in their decade.

Pearl Jam was officially formed in Seattle in 1990 with the group’s debut performance on October 22, 1990.

As a band formed by musical geniuses who had played for some of the original Seattle grunge bands for nearly a decade, they had a more experienced front.

The band has an existing line-up consisting of:

  • bassist Jeffrey Allen Ament
  • rhythm guitarist Stone Carpenter Gossard
  • lead guitarist Michael David McCready
  • lead vocalist Eddie Jerome Vedder
  • drummer Matthew David Cameron

As of this writing, ten of their studio albums won gold and platinum certifications in the UK, Australia, Canada, and the United States among other countries subsequently upon their releases.

Their debut album TEN, for instance, won a 13 times-diamond Platinum certification in the USA.

With an estimated sale of over 85 million albums worldwide and almost 32 million albums in the US by 2012, they became noted as one of the Best-Selling Bands of All Time.

They were ranked number eight in Rolling Stone’s Top Ten Live Acts of All Time and won a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package for the album Lightning Bolt.

They set a record in 2001 for most albums to debut in the Billboard 200 after the release of two live albums.

In 2005, the band was voted the greatest American band in a poll for USA Today readers.

Pearl Jam received the award for Best Live Act during Esquire’s 2006 Esky Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Up until 2017, the group has sold over thirty-two million albums in the United States alone and over 100 million album copies worldwide.
